Morning sun factors into car-vs-pickup accidentMay 23, 2019
From Local Sources
DUBOIS — Glare from the morning sun was cited as a factor in a Saturday car-versus-pickup-truck accident southeast of Dubois.
Nicholas A. Matheis, 65, Dubois, was eastbound on State Road 545 in a 2012 Ford F-150 when the 7:27 a.m. accident occurred 750 feet west of Cuzco Road South, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Matheis was slowed and signaling to turn when his truck was rear-ended by a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Adison E. Denu, 19, Dubois, according to the sheriff’s office.
Denu said she was slow to recognize the Matheis truck due to the sun shining in her eyes.
Police said Denu suffered a lower right leg scrape.
Total damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
A deputy gave Denu a verbal warning for speeding.
