Morning Replay: 5/23

Wildcats 4, Jeeps 1:
Third-ranked Jasper posted the program's 12th regional championship by toppling county rival Northeast Dubois 4-1 in the regional finale at the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex. Abby Rogers beat Michaela Stemle 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Maria Lueken ousted Kendra Schroering 6-0, 6-1 at the second singles slot. In doubles, Jasper's Elizabeth Theil and Ashley Rogers rolled past Talia Terwiske and Jenna Stemle 6-2, 6-1 while MeKenzie Hilsmeyer and Brooke Lueken beat Andrea Smock and Jennifer Schepers 6-1, 6-2. Northeast Dubois picked up its point at No. 3 singles, where Lena Kleinhage upended Abby Flick 6-2, 6-3. The Wildcats (19-2) will meet No. 6 Floyd Central or Jeffersonville in the semistate Saturday in Jasper; the Highlanders and Red Devils will play their regional title match today.

Wildcats 13, Hatchets 0 (six innings):
Top-ranked Jasper blew open a close game with a four-run fifth inning then racked up eight runs in the sixth inning en route to a first-round Class 3A sectional rout at Ruxer Field. Cal Krueger socked two doubled and drove in five runs then pitched the final inning. The freshman relieved Mark Giesler, who buzzed through five innings while allowing just three hits and zero walks with seven strikeouts. Nick Gobert and Andy Knust both finished with two hits. Knust, Gobert, Giesler, Scott Stallwood and Ben Moore all scored two runs. Jasper (27-3) will meet rival Vincenens Lincoln, which clubbed Mitchell 12-2 on Wednesday, in Monday's first semifinal.

Vikings 2, Raiders 1: North Posey edged Southridge 2-1 in the semifinals of the Class 2A bracket in Bretzville. Southridge (10-15) broke a scoreless knot when Kassidy Mundy singled and scored on an error in the fourth inning, but North Posey countered with two runs in the fifth inning on a two-out, two-run triple from Kelsey Owen. North Posey pitcher Hailee Elderkin held the Raiders to only four hits and totaled 11 strikeouts.

Braves 9, Jeeps 1: Tecumseh beat Northeast Dubois 9-1 in the Class 1A sectional title game in Dubois. The No. 4 Braves got a solo homer in the first inning from Tiffany Summers, who transfered her power to the pitching circle. The standout tossed a complete game to send Tecumseh to its 11th consecutive sectional crown. The Jeeps close the season at 6-15.

Chargers 10, Patriots 4: Pike Central topped Heritage Hills 10-4 in the Class 3A sectional championship game at the Jasper High School Softball Complex. The Patriots led 2-1 after three innings, but Pike Central rallied for five runs in the fourth to seize control. The Chargers committed eight errors — all in the first four innings — but whacked 14 hits and limited the Patriots (22-7) to just four. Kayla Hoppenjans doubled for Heritage Hills.
