Morning Replay: 5/22

Patriots 3, Wildcats 1: Heritage Hills surged ahead with a two-run fourth inning and added a run in the fifth, bumping Jasper from the postseason in a Class 3A sectional semifinal clash at the Jasper High School Softball Complex. Abby Fischer poked a two-run single to put the Patriots (22-6) ahead in the fourth. Felicia Leibering popped a solo homer in the fifth. Nicolette Eckert singled and scored in the first inning to produce Jasper's lone run. The Cats (16-13) smacked six hits on the night but didn't score again against winnig pitcher Kaitlin Kralj. Jasper's Keegan Katter allowed just five hits. Heritage Hills advances to tonight's title game against Pike Central; the Pats won the regular-season meeting 7-6.

Raiders 6, Commodores 4: Southridge bunched all of its scoring in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings en route to a first-round sectional win in the Class 2A bracket at Bretzville. The Raiders blasted two home runs: Kendyl Dearing's solo shot in the fifth and Megan Stapleton's three-run dinger in the sixth. Dearing earned the pitching victory, with Stapleton entering in the sixth and preserving the win that sends the Raiders (10-14) into tonight's semifinals against North Posey.

Vikings 1, Rangers 0: North Posey snapped a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the seventh inning, bouncing Forest Park from the Class 2A sectional at Bretzville. The Rangers (12-14) were limited to three hits and committed three errors. Ericka Lange suffered the loss despite permitting only four hits, all singles.

Wildcats 5, Spartans 0: Third-ranked Jasper sailed past South Knox 5-0 in a regional semifinal matchup at the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex in Jasper. The Wildcats' singles trio of Abby Rogers, Maria Lueken and Abby Flick all won by the same 6-1, 6-0 score. Elizabeth Theil and Ashley Rogers rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while MeKenzie Hilsmeyer and Brooke Lueken notched a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Jasper (18-2) will face Northeast Dubois (15-1) in today's championship match.

Jeeps 5, Cardinals 0: Northeast Dubois rolled Bloomfield 5-0 in a regional semifinal contest at the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex in Jasper. The Jeeps (15-1) won all five points in straight sets, with Talia Terwiske and Jenna Stemle's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles the most convincing victory. Michaela Stemle won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Kendra Schroering snagged a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, and Lena Kleinhage completed the singles sweep with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles. Andrea Smock and Jennifer Schepers won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Jeeps will meet No. 3 Jasper (18-2) in today's championship match.
