A quick look at the prep sports action The Herald staff covered Saturday. These stories will be in today's print edition and will be updated back here at later this morning.

Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame Classic: Jasper topped the team that bumped it from the postseason a year ago then clubbed its way to a perfect weekend in a five-inning rout to win the tournament it hosts each season. The Class 3A No. 2 Wildcats topped Class 3A No. 3 Silver Creek 6-2 almost a year after the Dragons beat the Cats (23-2) in the regional semifinals. Then, Jasper thumped Evansville North 10-0 in five innings to cap a perfect weekend (Jasper also beat Evansville Harrison 4-1 on Friday).

Against Silver Creek, Cal Krueger fired a complete game for the victory. The freshman struck out six to move to 3-1 on the season. Nick Gobert ripped a two-run double, Courtland Betz smacked a two-run single, and both Mark Giesler and Spencer Otto contributed RBI singles.

Against North, another freshman pitcher led the way, as Craig Shepherd permitted only three hits over five innings. Gobert, Scott Stallwood and Andy Knust all doubled, and Nathan Leibering drove home the final two runs to end the game via the mercy rule. Jasper capitalized on six North errors.
