More ripping and destroying or move on to something better?

To the editor:

“Our spirit is still young; the sun is still rising; God’s grace is still shining; and my fellow Americans, the best is yet to come!” — President Donald Trump, 2020 State of the Union

For the sake of our children and their children, I sure hope President Trump is right.

But no sooner than those words had been spoken Tuesday night, Speaker Nancy Pelosi could be seen behind President Trump defiantly ripping up the words the president had just spoken.

“It felt like she ripped our hearts out — everybody there, all the guests, we couldn’t believe it,” said Jody Jones, one of those honored at the State of the Union address. “Look, I don’t care how you feel about somebody. That was probably the most disrespectful thing I’ve ever seen in my life because when she did that it tore us up. We couldn’t believe it.”

So, where to now? More ripping and destroying or move on to something better?

Also on Tuesday night, Trump noted that “the American age, the American epic, the American adventure has only just begun.”

Such an uplifting message of hope, it almost makes one wish to be young again.
