Mishap leads to impaired driving accusationFebruary 18, 2019
From Local Sources
JASPER — Police placed a man under arrest after an investigation into a Friday afternoon accident on the city’s south side.
The Jasper Police Department was called to investigate the report of a two-vehicle accident at U.S. 231 and State Road 162 at 5:20 p.m.
Officers suspected one of the drivers, Aaron M. Gogel, 32, 205 W. 20th St., Huntingburg, who had been driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat, may be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Police report Gogel failed field sobriety testing and tested positive at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for having Suboxone in his system. Authorities alleged Gogel also possessed Gabapentin without a prescription.
Authorities booked Gogel into the Dubois County Security Center at 8:32 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated (drugs) and a preliminary misdemeanor count of illegal possession of a controlled substance. The preliminary impaired driving charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior OWI conviction within the last five years, according to authorities.
