Mine truck fire sparks evacuation

The Daviess County Sheriff's Department requested the evacuation of an area southeast of Montgomery today as police and the fire departments from Montgomery and Cannelburg worked a truck fire that involved explosives.

Authorities said the evacuation was over just before 3 p.m. and that area residents could return to their homes.

The site of the fire was at the mine south of Old U.S. 50 and west of Daviess County Road 800E, according to the sheriff's department.
Authorities requested an evacuation of a 1-mile radius around the mine . All roads in that area were closed, according to the sheriff's department.
