Meeting: North Spencer Schools

The North Spencer School Board met Monday and:

• Approved the advertisement of the 2019 budget. The total budget — before Indiana Department of Local Government Finance cuts — is about $23 million. That amount can change. The district tax rate will be determined by the DLGF.

• Accepted the resignation of Julie Kemp as principal at Chrisney Elementary School, Nakaa Myers as corporation elementary social worker, Shannon Fuhs as a language arts teacher at Heritage Hills Middle School, Dillion Gregory as boys golf coach at Heritage Hills High School, Allison Myers as girls assistant tennis coach at the high school, Cassandra Jochim as the freshmen volleyball coach at the high school and Kim Litkenhus as the Spencer County Tobacco Free Coalition coordinator.

• Approved the appointment of Lori Hermann as principal at Chrisney Elementary, Erica Nix as the corporation elementary guidance counselor, David Zazzetti as head of maintenance at David Turnham Education Center, Cassie Berg as special needs preschool instructional assistant at Nancy Hanks Elementary, Angie Spinner as aquatics instructor and special education teacher at the high school, Angie Spinner as the head swim coach at the middle school and an assistant swim coach at the high school, Greg Deller as head golf coach at the high school, Gary Ayer as head swim coach at the high school, Jessica Kincaid as the Spencer County Tobacco Free Coalition coordinator, and Kathy Wilmes as Spencer County Tobacco Free Coalition grant supervisor.

• Approved MarTek of Santa Claus to install exterior video surveillance cameras at the high school and middle school at a cost of $22,475.

• Canceled the Monday, Sept. 10, school board meeting so board members can attend the Indiana School Board Association and Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents annual fall conference.

• Heard a presentation from FFA Members Bryce Peter, Sydney Hassfurther, Robert Gogel, Alex Gehlhausen and Kaitlin Sanders about various activities and learning opportunities the organization offers throughout the year.

• Approved Chad Schnieders, Jeff Cochren, Ben Lawalin, and Jody Schmitt to attend Advanced School Safety Specialist Training in Indianapolis in September.
