Meeting: Jasper Public Library

The Jasper Public Library Board met Thursday and:

• Held a budget hearing for the 2020 budget. There were no public comments. The Department of Local Government Finance approved a budget of $2,051,542 for the library, which includes some staff and services that are shared with the Dubois County Contractual Library, which is responsible for the Birdseye, Dubois and Ferdinand branches. The contractual library also makes payments to the Jasper Public Library for the shared services. The budget also includes an 8% increase in the annual stipend full-time employees receive.

• Discussed offering part-time employees a full two weeks of vacation, rather than the one and a half currently allotted. The increase would be a way to reward the part-time employees since they do not receive a stipend like full-time employees do.

• Heard that the library will host a story hour at the Jasper Farmers Market at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The farmers market takes place on the green near the Jasper Train Depot.

• Heard an update on the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center. The utility work under Mill Street has wrapped up, and structural work has begun on the arts wing.
