Meeting: Jasper Common Council

The Jasper Common Council met Wednesday and:

• Approved a resolution that authorized the local match commitment for a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant that will be used to pay for $1.38 million of the long-discussed U.S. 231 water supply and pressure improvements project. Total, the project will cost $4,629,745, with the remainder of the money coming from a loan from the electric utility.

• Approved an ordinance vacating the public utilities, drainage easements and easement for a future roadway in Westview Estates II, which is located near the intersection of Rolling Ridge Road and Valley View Road.

• Reaffirmed a decision made in May 2017 that authorized the issuing of a bond for the Jasper Community Arts portion of the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center. The bond will be a $6 million taxable bond.

• Approved a resolution accepting nine donations totaling $5,450 for the Jasper Police Department’s K-9 program. Mayor Terry Seitz said the current K-9 in the department is reaching its half-life, so the donations will help get a second K-9 officer on the force.
