Meeting: Jasper Board of Zoning Appeals

The Jasper Board of Zoning Appeals met Wednesday and:

• Elected officers for the year. The slate will remain the same as it was in 2018: Josh Gunselman will serve as chairman, Dan Buck will serve as vice chairman and Matthew Schaick will serve as secretary.

• Approved height and style variances for a detached garage on a residentially-zoned plot of land located at the southeast corner of Church Avenue and Giesler Road. Neighbors previously expressed concerns about the structure, but David Zehr, the property owner, and those remonstrators have since come to an agreement that involves making changes to the appearance of the garage that will boost its overall compatibility with the other homes and structures in the neighborhood. The board approved the variances on the condition that the work be completed by June 1.

• Heard from property owner Mark Marshall who voiced concerns about what will become of a lot across from his address on Fifth Street, where a home was recently torn down. He requested the matter be discussed further at the board’s next meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at City Hall, 610 Main St.
