Meeting: Holland Town Council

The Holland Town Council held a year-end meeting Thursday and:

• Scheduled a public hearing on proposed water rates and charges for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Town Hall, 505 W. Main St. Holland is getting a $600,000 grant to use toward rehabilitating the Holland water tower and replacing a small Stendal tower with a larger, 50,000-gallon unit. The water rate is proposed to go up by about 25 percent, both to finish funding the water tower work and to cover 2019 increases being passed on by the Patoka Lake Regional Water and Sewer District and St. Henry Water Corp. About 8 percent of the total projected increase is to cover the wholesale suppliers’ increase. A legal ad detailing the proposed rates and charges is on Page 22 of today’s newspaper.

• Renewed a fire-protection contract and a recreation contract between the town and Cass Township.

• Reorganized by retaining Tom Thacker as president, Councilman Mike Ellis as the council’s representative to the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission and Councilwoman Melanie Barrett as the council’s representative on the Holland Park Board. The council will continue to meet at 6 p.m. the Wednesday following the first Monday of each month. Meetings are at Town Hall, 505 W. Main St.

• Hired Scott Hunefeld as a full-time town employee. He had been a part-time employee. Former full-time employee Winfred Brock is moving to part-time status in 2019.
