Meeting: Holland Council

The Holland Town Council met Wednesday and:

• Discussed possibly adding a splash pad at the town park. Council President Tom Thacker says there are a lot of questions to be answered, therefore, the issue is just in the discussion phase.

• Reviewed the status of the town’s ongoing $1.13 million water tower upgrade. Holland is rehabilitating the Holland water tower and replacing a small Stendal tower with a 50,000-gallon replacement. Financing for the project includes a $600,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and a 19.3% rate increase implemented this spring. The Holland water tower near the elementary school is going to be repainted, with pits and seams being addressed and a new ladder installed. Work to sandblast and paint the tower should begin later this month. Stendal’s new tower is going up north of the existing tank on land the Lockhart Township Community Club has contributed to the project. A center footing and two leg footings are complete and the entire foundation could be in next week if the weather cooperates.

• Talked with Holland Volunteer Fire Department Chief Adam Chambers about the department’s fire protection contract with the town.
