Matheis gets record, Jasper first Castle winFebruary 14, 2020
From Herald Staff Reports
A lot went on Friday night. The Dubois County Herald has the details.
Prep girls swimming
State at IUPUI: Jasper girls ended their swim season Friday night at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, but not before Megan Matheis put her name in the record books. She finished 26th in the 100 breaststroke, but her time of 1:07.74 set a new school record. The sophomore also finished 30th in the 200 freestyle and competed in two relays. She swam with juniors Leah Haas and Claire Witte, as well as fellow sophomore Avery Henke, to finish 29th in the 200 freestyle relay. Henke, Witte, Matheis and sophomore Andi VanMeter took 28th in the 400 freestyle relay.
Prep boys basketball
Jasper 75, Castle 73, overtime: Jasper had never beaten Castle in boys basketball before Friday. The Wildcats (14-5) changed that, but had to grind it out. They tied with the Knights, 61-61, after four quarters of play. Jasper outscored Castle, 14-12, in overtime, and that was the difference. That win gave Jackson Kabrick, Carter Stamm, Elliott Hopf, Quentin Harmon and Reece Day the win on Senior Night.
Jasper is scheduled to return to action Feb. 18 at Princeton.
