JASPER — The Jasper Police Department arrested a Martin County man Saturday evening and accused him of felony domestic battery against a woman and young child.
Police were called to the report of a physical altercation between a man and a woman at a residence at 6:04 p.m.
After investigating, police alleged William J. Burris Jr., 32, Loogootee, had battered and strangled a female and her 4-year-old son. Police further alleged Burris damaged property within the residence.
Authorities said the victims were transported by ambulance for treatment.
Burris was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 10:05 p.m. on preliminary charges that included two Level 5 felony counts of domestic battery, two Level 6 felony counts of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.
Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted.
