Manure shed catches fire in Martin County

From Local Sources

WHITFIELD — The Haysville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a working farm outbuilding fire Tuesday afternoon at a Whitfield-area property in Martin County.

The department was called to Shad Arvin’s property at 1481 Lingenfelter Road at 3:02 p.m., according to Fire Chief John Fuhrman.

Fuhrman said manure in a manure shed spontaneously combusted. Flames were nearing the shed’s posts when firefighters arrived. The department, aided by tanker support from the Southeast Daviess County Volunteer Fire Department from Alfordsville, sprayed water to cool things off so Arvin could move the manure outside the shed.

Haysville responded with three trucks and eight firefighters who were on the scene 80 minutes.
