Northwood Retirement Community resident Norma Schmicker, left, thanks Jane Schwenk of Jasper for her manicure at the facility in Jasper on Thursday afternoon. Schwenk, along with Barb Dilger and Joyce Voegerl, both of Jasper, visit the nursing home every Thursday to give free manicures to the residents. “I look forward to it and I get to know the ladies better each week,” Schwenk said. “The first time I had Norma, she was so particular about her nails but I just smiled and we got along just fine. Now, I always get a hug.”

Barb Dilger of Jasper paints a second coat of nail polish for Northwood Retirement Community resident Dora Bickwermert at the facility in Jasper on Thursday afternoon. Dilger has been coming to Northwood every Thursday for the past 15 years. "There's always hugs and people who want to pay you," Dilger said. "It warms your heart."
