Man wanted on warrant capured after pursuit

BIRDSEYE — A Birdseye man wanted on a domestic violence warrant was taken into custody Friday night after a pursuit.


The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department had sought and secured a warrant Friday in Dubois Circuit Court charging Steven L. Mundy, 58, 8498 S. State Road 145, Birdseye, with a Level 6 felony count of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery after investigating an incident last week in Birdseye.

A deputy and an Indiana State Police trooper located Mundy driving a 1999 Dodge pickup truck in Birdseye at 8:25 p.m. Friday. When they attempted a traffic stop, police said, Mundy fled southbound on State Road 145.

During the ensuing pursuit that went into Perry County, police allegedly saw Mundy throw drugs from his vehicle that were recovered in the vicinity of State Road 62 and the Anderson River Bridge.

Police said Mundy’s truck ran over tire deflation devices near state roads 145 and 62. He vehicle was disabled and he was taken into custody a few miles down the road near St. Croix.

Authorities booked Mundy into the Dubois County Security Center on the active warrant and on new preliminary charges that included Level 6 felony counts of resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle and possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
