Man jailed on theft warrant

From Local Sources

JASPER — Authorities booked a man into jail Sunday on a local warrant charging him with Level 6 felony theft.

Chad A. Klein, 39, who has no current address, is alleged to have taken various merchandise valued at $45.98 from the Grounded organic food store at 435 S. U.S. 231, Jasper, on Aug. 28, according to court documents. A warrant for his arrest was issued out of Dubois Superior Court on Sept. 19 along with a notice of intent to seek an enhanced penalty because of a previous theft conviction on Klein’s record.

The Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office has also filed a motion to revoke Klein’s bond in another open case in which he is charged with Level 5 felony operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life and misdemeanor operating while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body and possession of paraphernalia. One condition of Klein’s bond in that case was that he not be charged or arrested for any new criminal offense while out on bond.
