Man injured in moped-vs-SUV crashMarch 22, 2019

FERDINAND — A moped driver was ultimately taken to St. Vincent Evansville for injuries sustained in a crash with an SUV this morning in Ferdinand.
Ferdinand Police Department officers were dispatched around 6:11 a.m. to the crash at State Road 162 and West 23rd Street.
According to police, Lauren R. Schwartz, 28, of Ferdinand was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer and traveling west from East 23rd Street through the intersection onto West 23rd Street. Steven L. Beard, 58, of Ferdinand, was traveling southbound on State Road 162 on a 2014 TaoTao 5cc moped.
Schwartz told police she did not see the moped until it crashed into the passenger side of her Explorer.
Beard was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper before being taken to St. Vincent Evansville. His moped was totaled in the crash.
The Ferdinand Police Department was assisted by the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and Berg's wrecker service.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
