JASPER — A man was taken to the hospital following a Tuesday morning accident at U.S. 231 and Hoffman Road.

Ray Stilwell, 89, of Petersburg went to the hospital for chest pain following the 9:30 a.m. accident, Jasper Police reported.

Stilwell was driving south on Hoffman Road and came to a stop at the street’s intersection with U.S. 231. Jaden Schuetter, 16, of Huntingburg was driving south on U.S. 231 and was passing through the Hoffman Road intersection, while April Foll, 47, of Velpen was in her northbound vehicle on U.S. 231 and in the left turn lane waiting to turn onto Hoffman.

Stilwell failed to see Schuetter’s vehicle and began to drive through the intersection, police said. The front driver side of Stilwell’s 2011 Cadillac collided with the passenger side of Schuetter’s 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, police said. The collision pushed the Silverado into Foll’s 2021 Toyota Tacoma; the rear driver side of the Silverado collided with the front driver side of the Tacoma, police reported.

The accident totaled Stilwell’s Cadillac and Foll’s Tacoma and caused $2,000 in damages to Schuetter’s Silverado. Stilwell was cited by police for failure to yield the right of way.
