JASPER — A man involved in a Thursday evening disturbance was placed under arrest on several preliminary charges.
The Jasper Police Department reports encountering Devonte J. Chatman, 28, 404 E. 14th St., Jasper, stumbling on a public sidewalk near a roadway after being called at 7:50 p.m. to the report of a domestic disturbance.
Police say Chatman, who had been reported to have been drinking and who had previously damaged a residential fence, began yelling and would not comply with officers’ commands.
The situation resulted in Chatman being taken to the ground and handcuffed. Police said he continued to resist and was placed in a patrol car. He refused a portable breath test but was believed to be highly intoxicated, police said.
Authorities booked Chatman into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:11 p.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and public intoxication.
