Man charged with theft appears in court

JASPER — A Vanderburgh County man turned himself in Thursday at the Dubois County Security Center to answer to a warrant charging him with felony theft.

The case in Dubois Superior Court alleges that, on May 27, Bart E. Hayes, 38, Evansville, took various items of merchandise valued at $921.44 from the Walmart Supercenter at 4040 N. Newton St.

A warrant charging Hayes with Level 6 felony theft was issued out of Dubois Superior Court June 17. Hayes was booked into the security center at 12:54 a.m. Thursday on the warrant.

During a subsequent court appearance, Hayes’ bond was set at $1,000 and his next court appearance was scheduled for Aug. 29. Hayes posted bond Thursday afternoon.
