JASPER — Authorities served a warrant for theft this week on a man already incarcerated in the Dubois County Security Center.
Reid A. Toby, 21, 3828 N. Portersville Road, Jasper, has been at the county jail since Feb. 17 after turning himself in to answer to a warrant charging him with failing to return to lawful detention.
On Tuesday, Toby was served with a warrant charging him with two misdemeanor counts of theft.
Charging information alleges that on Dec. 21, Toby took merchandise valued at $69.16 from the Jasper Walmart. Then, on Jan. 13, he allegedly took merchandise valued at $83.30 from the 4040 N. Newton St. store.
The Jasper Police Department investigated, which resulted in a warrant being issued Feb. 20 in Dubois Superior Court.
An initial hearing in the theft case took place Wednesday and Toby’s next court appearance was scheduled for March 16.
