HOLLAND — Indiana State Police took a Holland man into custody overnight on warrants charging him with Level 6 felony counts of failing to return to lawful detention and auto theft.
Brian S. Cruz, 18, 105 W. Main St., Holland, was placed on pre-trial work release in June after his arrest on burglary, theft and unauthorized entry into motor vehicles charges connected to a string of vehicle entries and thefts in the Huntingburg area.
Documents in Dubois Circuit Court allege Cruz left the Dubois County Community Corrections Center on Aug. 15 and did not return. A failure-to-return warrant was issued the next day.
A separate arrest warrant issued a week ago in Dubois Circuit Court accuses Cruz with the unlawful taking of a 2007 Toyota Corolla on Aug. 17.
After receiving information about Cruz’s whereabouts, a trooper located him overnight in Holland. The trooper alleged Cruz was found in possession of alcohol and marijuana.
Authorities booked Cruz into the Dubois County Security Center at 12:44 a.m. today on the active warrants. He was also preliminarily charged with new misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession and minor in possession of alcohol.
