Man arrested in drive-thru

JASPER — City Police arrested John W. Carroll, 28, Sunday evening after finding him intoxicated in the driver’s seat of a car in a drive-thru.

Carroll was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of .15% or more and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

At 8:37 p.m., police were dispatched to Smoker Friendly Discount Tobacco on Newton Street about a man unconscious in the store’s drive-thru. Carrol was found behind the wheel of a 2018 Ford Focus with the motor still running, police reported. Officers conducted field sobriety tests on Carroll before he was transported to Memorial Hospital for testing.

The car was towed by Sternberg’s and Carroll was lodged into the Dubois County Security Center.
