Man arrested for battery, assaulting officer

A Birdseye man was arrested Thursday morning for assault, including fighting an officer.
Shane J. Schlachter, 41, 30 Poplar St., was charged with domestic battery with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; domestic battery in the presence of a child under the age of 16, domestic battery with moderate bodily injury and battery against a public official, all Level 6 felonies; and resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct, both Class A misdemeanors.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office were called to a Birdseye residence at 11:37 p.m. Wednesday concerning a domestic battery that had taken place. Deputies went to the residence and learned that a male subject, identified as Schlachter, had stabbed a victim with a piece of glass.
When the deputies entered the residence, Schlachter charged at them, police reported. They scuffled on the ground until the deputies could restrain Schlachter, police said.
Schlachter was lodged at the Dubois County Security Center at 3:04 a.m. Thursday.
