HUNTINGBURG — A Huntingburg man is being accused of stealing two vehicles, one after the other, from one victim.
A female complainant contacted the Huntingburg Police Department at 12:30 p.m. Monday to report that her 2007 Ford Escape had been stolen by Steven D. Coble, 31, 502 Pleasantview Drive.
After taking the report and attempting to locate the SUV, officers were contacted again by the original complainant who advised her Escape had been returned and her beige 1997 Pontiac Sunfire had now been taken.
Police agencies were asked to be on the lookout for the car and Huntingburg police reached out on social media asking for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle.
At 4:30 p.m. Monday, an individual who had seen the social media post reported spotting the stolen car.
The Jasper Police Department secured the vehicle and Coble until a Huntingburg officer could respond.
Police say the Sunfire was released back to the victim and Coble was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:46 p.m. on two preliminary Level 6 felony counts of auto theft.
In a media release, Huntingburg police thanked the individual who reported spotting the car.
