HUNTINGBURG — Police arrested a driver on multiple preliminary charges early Sunday.
A Huntingburg Police Department officer reported observing a 2010 Mazda CX-7 at 3:33 a.m. at a north-side gas station. The driver, later identified as Demetrius Arnold, 46, 475 Rumbach Ave., Jasper, drew the officer’s attention when he revved the vehicle’s engine.
While traveling southbound on Main Street, the Mazda allegedly struck a curb, went left of center and reached 50 mph in the 25 mph zone. The officer stopped the vehicle at Second and Main streets after the Mazda had struck a curb for a second time.
Police reported Arnold refused to exit the vehicle, had to be forcibly removed and refused chemical testing for impairment after being transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Authorities booked Arnold into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:37 a.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated (test refusal), reckless driving, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
