Man accused of false informing, drug offenses

HUNTINGBURG — Police arrested a Crawford County man after encountering him early this morning in a vehicle parked in a north-side hotel’s parking lot.

A Huntingburg Police Department officer patrolling in the area at 2:52 a.m. checked on a man who appeared to be sleeping in the front seat of a van with its window down in the Quality Inn parking lot at 406 E. 22nd St.

Police allege the man, Anthony W. Sturgeon, 31, Taswell, initially gave an incorrect name and birth date. Sturgeon was also allegedly found in possession of a syringe, a pill that was a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia that included a spoon filled with pieces of cotton.

Authorities booked Sturgeon into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:08 a.m. on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony unlawful possession of a syringe and maintaining a common nuisance and misdemeanor false informing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
