JASPER — The Jasper Police Department took a Martin County man into custody Tuesday after responding to the report of a stolen computer tablet.
The ASUS ZenPad tablet in question is used by staff at Huck’s Food & Fuel, 230 Third Ave. It is valued at more than $130.
Police were called to the convenience store at 10:40 a.m. after an employee placed the tablet on the counter next to soda machines and later discovered it had been taken.
A review of video surveillance footage allegedly showed a man taking the tablet and placing it in his camouflage backpack before leaving.
Police identified Andrew W. Lyon, 38, Loogootee, as their suspect and located him holding the ASUS ZenPad at a south-side restaurant at 11:44 a.m. Police also alleged Lyon admitted to the theft during questioning.
Authorities booked Lyon into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:25 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of theft. Police indicated the preliminary theft charge was elevated to a felony because Lyon was previously convicted of a theft in Dubois County on Oct. 29.
