Man accused of battery on law enforcement

JASPER — Police placed a Pike County man under arrest after responding to a call late Tuesday morning of an unruly man at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.


The Jasper Police Department was called to the hospital at 11:45 a.m. and, during the response, Matthew R. Lapensee, 29, 1097 S. Pike County Road 900E, Velpen, allegedly ran toward officers with his arms up.

Police attempted to detain Lapensee and he allegedly attempted to push off officers. He is also alleged to have attempted to strike and to actualy strike both an officer and a hospital security officer.

Authorities booked Lapensee into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:02 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of battery on law enforcement and preliminary misdemeanor counts of battery and resisting law enforcement.
