Gone Fishin': Teens are state champion anglers
June 18, 2020
From Local Sources
Judd Linette and Gabe Verkamp, both from Jasper, are now state champions.
The duo started out fishing in some Indiana Bass Federation Youth/High School (South) tournaments last year. They amassed three first-place finishes and three big bass awards for the season. They finished the Student Angler Federation Championship at Brookville on Sunday with a five-fish limit for 11 lbs., 12 oz. and a big bass of 3 lbs., 4 oz. for the tournament, which resulted in the two being named 2020 Indiana High School Fishing TBF Student Angler Federation state champions.
They now head to Lacrosse, Wisconsin, for the 11th annual High School Fishing National and World Final Championship tournaments on June 23-27. The tournament will be filmed for TV on the Pursuit Channel, and offers almost $3 million in scholarships and prizes.
Gone Fishin’, which features photos of area fishermen and their catches, runs periodically in The Herald during fishing season. To submit a picture of your prized catch, email a high-quality photo to sports@dcherald.com. Be sure to include your name, hometown, where the fish was caught and other details about the fish, including its length and weight. We will run the photos as space permits. Only submit one picture per fisherman, per season.
