Excellence goes beyond just the court for many local basketball players.
The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association announced 71 high school seniors as first-team Academic All-State. An additional 188 boys and 189 girls earned honorable mentions, with players from all five local schools having players with at least one of those honors.
The head coaches of the IBCA-member schools could nominate seniors who had a 3.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale, were in the top 25 percent of their class, had an SAT score of 1,100 on the reading and math portions or a composite ACT score of 24.

Heritage Hills had a long climb, but stood atop the Sectional 32 mountain again on Saturday.
