Local athletes receive Academic All-State honor

Several local boys and girls basketball players were named to the Academic All-State honorable mention and All-State first team roster on Wednesday evening.

The recognition is open to all seniors who meet criteria that includes a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, a class rank in the upper 25 percent of their class, an SAT score of 1,100 or an ACT score of 24.

Area boys basketball players selected were Jasper’s Justin Persohn and Austin Simmers, Southridge’s Jayce Harter, Forest Park’s Collin Hochgesang and Daniel Lusk, Northeast Dubois’ Alex Harder and Brandon Merkel and Heritage Hills’ Mitchel Becher.

Area girls basketball players selected were Northeast Dubois’ Adi Denu, Alex Dodson, Clare Mangin, Kortney Quinn and Tyla Rasche along with Heritage Hills Claire Brinkman, Kate Kaetzel, Kerragan Mulzer and Abby Wetzel while Patriot standout Abby Wahl was the only area girls player to be named to the Academic All-State first team.
