Legion schedules Christmas party for children

JASPER — Members of American Legion Post 147 and Auxiliary are preparing for the annual Christmas party for children of the Jasper area. It is planned for Sunday, Dec. 8, which marks the 82nd consecutive year for the event.

The children’s party will be in the black gymnasium at Jasper Middle School, 3600 Portersville Road. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m.

Several cartoon characters will greet the children and guests on arrival.

Music will be provided by the Jasper Middle School band, under the direction of John Coller. Several Girl Scout Elves will assist Santa and the children as needed.

Santa Claus is expected to arrive at about 1 p.m. He will be available for a short time afterward to take pictures. Children will be given a bag of treats when leaving the gym.

Santa and several of his helpers will continue on to The Timbers of Jasper and St. Charles Health Campus to visit with residents. Santa will give a small gift to each resident.

Visits to Northwood Retirement Community, Brookside Village Senior Living Community and Cathedral Home Health Care Center will be made on Dec. 7.
