JASPER — A Lake County man was placed under arrest and accused of impaired driving in Jasper on Monday evening.
A Jasper Police Department officer stopped a vehicle driven by Robert A. Orosz, 55, Merrillville, on Newton Street north of Brucke Strasse at 6:51 p.m. after allegedly clocking the vehicle traveling at 39 mph in a 25 mph section of Second Street.
The officer reported noticing the odor of alcoholic beverages and Orosz’s red, glassy eyes.
Police say Orosz’s blood alcohol content tested .16 percent at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Authorities booked Orosz into the Dubois County Security Center at 10:07 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated. The preliminary impaired-driving charge was elevated to a felony because of a May conviction in Florida for operating while intoxicated, according to authorities.
Orosz posted bond Tuesday morning.
