Knies receives scholarship

Each year, the Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation awards scholarships to juniors or seniors attending an Indiana college or university who are in a program leading to a degree in education. The Dubois County Retired Teachers Association announces that the 2018 scholarship award winner for Area 9 (Dubois County) is Cayden Knies.

Knies is the son of Sherry and Duane Knies. His parents are teachers in the Greater Jasper and Northeast Dubois school districts. He attends the University of Southern Indiana. Diane Jahn, his aunt and also a member of IRTA, was Knies’ sponsor for the $2,000 scholarship award.

While in high school, Knies was president of the Spanish Club, secretary of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and freshman class secretary. He was a member of the Student Council, Beta Club, Siprit Club and the school improvement team. During his senior year, he was a cadet teacher at Dubois Middle School.

At USI, he is a member of the Newman Catholic Center, the Teaching Eagles program and the intramural sports program. He volunteered at the SeaPerch Engineering Competition and Indiana state mathematics contests.
