Kindergarten registration set for February

JASPER — Kindergarten registration and round-up for the 2020-21 school year will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 20, for the Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools.

The registration process is online, but attendance is still required on Thursday, Feb. 20, to complete the registration process.

Parents may start the online registration process for their kindergarten child prior to the enrollment/round-up day. Online registration will open Tuesday, Feb. 11. Go to the school website the child will be attending, then click on the kindergarten round-up tabs at:

• Ireland Elementary School: www.gjcs.k12.in.us/3/home.

• Fifth Street Elementary School: www.gjcs.k12.in.us/4/home.

Both Ireland and Fifth Street elementary schools will each host enrollment/round-up in their buildings from 9 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

During registration, the child will be able to meet and spend 15 minutes one-on-one with a kindergarten teacher. During this time, the teacher will talk with the child, help them feel comfortable, and ask a few questions to gain a better understanding of the child’s skill level.

At this time, parents/guardians will be able to complete registration at the school. Allow approximately 30 minutes for this process as teachers look forward to meeting with each family.

For registration, parents will need to bring an original birth certificate indicating the child will be age 5 on or before Aug. 1 (this can be obtained from the health department in the county in which the child was born). The certificate from the hospital, in which your child was born, is not considered a legal document.  An original Social Security card also is required; school personnel will make a copy of it. The immunization record and dates of serious illnesses, accidents or operations for the child will be needed. A student who has not completed the immunization requirements for school entry will be allowed to register; however, the child must be in compliance with state law by the opening of school in the fall.
