Kathryn M. “Kat” Smith, 35, of Valparaiso, formerly of Jasper, passed away at 4:34 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Methodist Hospital North in Gary.
Kat was born in Huntingburg, Indiana on April 17, 1983, to Richard Alan and Charlene D. (Ruckriegel) Smith.
She was a loving mother and enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family.
Surviving are two children, Joey Taylor and Charlie Taylor of Huntingburg; one step-daughter, Maisie Taylor, Huntingburg; companion, Cliff Handley, Valparaiso; father, Richard Alan Smith, Valparaiso; one brother, Elijah Smith, Jasper; maternal grandmother, Lois Ruckriegel, Jasper; Aunts and Uncle, nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
Preceding her in death was her mother, Charlene Ruckriegel Smith.
Funeral services for Kathryn “Kat” Smith will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow at a later date.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 5 p.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel.
