Kappner named Optimist Youth of the Month

HUNTINGBURG — Michael Kappner, 17, a senior who attends Southridge High School and is the son of Joe and Stacy Kappner of Huntingburg, was selected as the Huntingburg Optimist Youth of the Month for October.

While in high school, Kappner was a member of the gold and tennis teams, and president of the National Honor Society. He also was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, German Club, freshman mentors and the Spirit Club. He is a candidate for valedictorian of this class.

As a junior, he was selected to represent Southridge High School as a rising star of Indiana and was selected to attend the Richard Lugar Leadership Academy Conference.  He attends monthly drills with the Sea Cadets and is a member of St. Mary Parish in Huntingburg, where he is involved in the youth group.

Kappner plans to attend Purdue University where he will study Aerospace Engineering.  He hopes to become an engineer in the Air Force.
