Juvenile hit by car

JASPER — A young pedestrian was hit by a car Monday afternoon near Jasper Middle School.
The juvenile and car’s driver, Leona Werner, 85, Jasper, did not have serious injuries; they were treated at the scene by Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and released, Jasper Police reported.
The police received a report of the accident on Portersville Road near the middle school at 3:56 p.m. After arriving at the scene, officers learned that Werner was driving south on the road in a 2011 Toyota Camry when she drove off the roadway for an unknown reason. The Camry went onto the sidewalk and struck the juvenile, police said.
The Camry sustained $500 in damages. Werner was cited for failure to obey signs and markings.
