Junior Shooting Sports ProgramAugust 13, 2021
Jasper American Legion Post 147 of Jasper is looking for a few new members of our Junior Shooting Sports Program. New young shooting enthusiasts in Jasper and the surrounding communities may take advantage of an organized shooting sports program. The program will begin on 9 Sept 2021 and will continue till mid-April.
The activity, sponsored by the Dubois County Post 147 of The American Legion, is open to boys and girls starting at 10 years thru the age of 18. Each student must be well disciplined and have the willingness to learn. The program is designed to teach youngsters the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes of responsible firearm ownership. It will also feature the development of basic marksmanship skills using .177 caliber air rifles. The numbers of new students are limited. There is no cost to this program. All equipment is provided and is of the highest quality. This is a family activity; parents are encouraged to get involved.
An open house is scheduled at the Post Home at 6PM on September 2nd in the basement where our firing range is located. Enter from 13th Street. All interested students must attend the OPEN HOUSE. Only one Open House is offered per shooting year. The meeting will last approximately 1 ½ hours, a parent or guardian is also required to attend. Student population and basic information will be discussed. Potential students will have the opportunity to fire the modern Target Grade Crossman Challenger .177 caliber rifle and the CZ 200 .177 caliber Air Rifle.
If chosen the athletes will become members of the Southern Indiana Sharpshooters Club, which meet weekly each Thursday from 5 to 7PM at the American Legion Post. Start times can be adjusted. Some training on Sundays may be necessary from 1 to 3 PM. for students who may need additional training and practice. Our club has shoulder to shoulder matches with other American Legion Shooting Clubs such as Shoals, Versailles, and Georgetown just to name a few plus home matches at our club. In addition, we shoot against other organizations throughout the USA using the Orion Scoring System. Details will be discussed at the meeting.
Interested students and parents desiring information should contact Coach Daniel Lawson at 661-2440 or firstname.lastname@example.org, as soon as possible. I encourage you to visit our Facebook page at “Southern Indiana Sharpshooters” for numerous photos of our activities.
