Joseph L. Mattingly, 71, Loogootee

Joseph Lawrence Mattingly, 71, Loogootee, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, in University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born in Barr Township on Oct. 11, 1943, to John E. and Mary B. (Kavanaugh) Mattingly. He married Alice Kaiser in 1968.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Mattingly; three daughters, Lynn Rickenbaugh and husband Michael Jr. of Dale, Lisa Horning and husband David of Scotland, Ind., and Laura Mattingly and companion Jeff Green of Dubois; four sisters, Veronica “Bonnie” Tennis of Washington, Rita Elliott and husband Doyle of Loogootee and Patricia Tow and Alberta Turner, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Timothy Mattingly and wife Eleanor of Montgomery; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Norbert, Frank, Gerald, John and Bernard Mattingly, and three sisters, Mary Alma Melton, Beatrice Sheetz and Jean Ellis.

Mr. Mattingly owned and operated feed mills for 60 years, including Mattingly Feed Store Inc. and Joe Mattingly Feed Service in Loogootee, J.M. Feed Center in Greencastle and Dubois Elevator in Dubois.
He was a member of St. Mary — Barr Township Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Catholic Church — Barr Township in Loogootee.
Father J. Kenneth Walker and Father Joseph F. Erbacher will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brocksmith-Blake and Wagler Funeral Home in Montgomery.
