Jones named Miss Flame at IVFA event

Francis Lindauer & Sons’ 1906 Stanley Steam Engine pulls railroad baggage carts past the reviewing stand Sunday at the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association’s District 18 Fire Prevention Parade in St. Meinrad. The steam engine brought from Ferdinand won the Judge’s Choice first-place award.

ST. MEINRAD — Kira Jones was named Miss Flame during the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association’s District 18 queen contest Sunday at the Archabbey Grounds in St. Meinrad.

Jones, the daughter of Phillip and Amy Jones, was representing the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department. She is a junior at Northeast Dubois High School.

First runner-up went to Tasha Wiseman, the daughter of Kyle and Debbie Wiseman, who was representing the English Volunteer Fire Department. Wiseman is a junior at Crawford County High School.

Second runner-up was Braili Schipp, the daughter of Jeremy Schipp and Amy Dilger, representing the Santa Claus Volunteer Fire Department. Schipp is a junior at Heritage Hills High School.

McKayla Persohn, daughter of Mark and Amy Persohn, was named Miss Congeniality. Persohn, a sophomore at Forest Park Junior-Senior High School, was representing the Schnellville Volunteer Fire Department.

Other queen candidates were Kristen Detty, daughter of Joe and Dawn Detty of Birdseye; Leslie Jochem, the daughter of Pat and Glennda Jochem of Ferdinand; and Tasha Wiseman, the daughter of Kyle and Debbie Wiseman of Leavenworth.

The queen contest was followed by the IVFA District 18 Fire Prevention Parade.

First-place winners at the parade were: Judges Choice, Francis Lindauer & Sons’ 1906 Stanley Steam Engine pulling railroad baggage carts; Post-1985 Fire Truck, St. Henry Volunteer Fire Department’s 2002 Refurbished 2018 Pierce Dash pumper/tanker; Pre-1985 Fire Truck, 1927 Seagrave Pumper; Best Vehicle, Don Ubelhor’s 1953 Ford F100; Float, G & M Dairy; and Walking Unit, St. Meinrad Boy Scout Troop 102.
