Joann Philipps Helton, 88, Owensboro, Ky.July 6, 2018
Joann (Holtzman) Philipps Helton, 88, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
She was born August 8, 1929, in Fulda to Pius and Helen (Hurm) Holtzman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dallas Philipps, on January 1, 1973. She then married Arlan Helton on August 1, 1988.
Joann retired from General Electric in Tell City. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro. She was an avid IU basketball fan, an avid quilter and loved watching all kinds of sports. She loved to dance. She befriended neighbors everywhere she lived.
Surviving are her husband, Arlan Helton of Owensboro; two sons, Michael (Jacquelyn) Philipps of Hartford, Kentucky, and Jeffrey (Khatuna) Philipps of Dale; one daughter, Jody (Jason) French of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leola (Omar) Stein of Santa Claus, Lyra Jane Knauf of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Margie Helming of Evansville; three stepdaughters, Debbie Helton and Gail (Charles) Bennett (Charles) of Scottsville, Kentucky, and Amy Hildenbrandt of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Jent.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. CT Monday, July 9,in Saint Boniface Church in Fulda, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. CT Sunday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and after 8 a.m. CT Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Jude Hospital or Shriners Hospital.
