JASPER — The Jasper Middle School’s spelling bee final round was held Friday, Jan. 4.

Approximately 90 students competed in grade-level preliminary rounds throughout the week of Dec. 10. After those rounds, 26 contestants competed in the finals.

After many highly competitive rounds, emerging as the champion was seventh-grader Caroline Buechlein, daughter of John and Amy Buechlein. Eighth-grader Reagan Fortwendel, daughter of Rod and Penny Fortwendel, was runner-up.

Caroline will take a screening test to qualify for the Tri-State Spelling Bee that will be held Saturday, March 2, at the University of Southern Indiana Performance Center.
