65 Years: Jim and Irene SeitzSeptember 14, 2021
Jim and Irene Seitz of Jasper, Indiana will celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary on September 22.
James Edward Seitz and Irene Theresia Kunkler were married on September 22, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale, Indiana.
Irene was a wonderful, devoted mother of three children and homemaker while Jim served active duty with the United States Marine Corps. Once retired from military life, Irene went to work at Kimball Electronics and retired in 1997. Jim, after serving tours in Viet Naam, Okinawa, and abroad, retired from the USMC in 1976 after 22 years of service and entered the world of real estate as a Certified Appraiser for Southern Indiana. When they retired from Kimball and Real Estate, they just didn’t know how to slow down, so they bought property with outbuildings near the Bretzville Junction and opened “Mulberry Tree Antiques”. Both worked endless hours serving the community that searched for antiques and collectibles. After 5 years, they decided to retire for a FINAL time and sold the property in 2000.
Since officially retired, they volunteered at Memorial Hospital from 2000-2013 helping wherever they were needed... driving the van during parking lot renovations, maintenance, housekeeping, environmental safety, working in the gift shop, offices filing and clerical assistance, shredding, mopping, you name it, they were there to help. However, soon after in 2015, Irene was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Irene now resides at Brookside Village in Jasper, and Jim resides in their home they had custom built specifically for their retirement needs in Jasper. The Family visits Irene Daily.
They have three children: Mike (Meaghan) Seitz of Cincinnati; Patty Seitz of Ferdinand; and Terri Seitz of Jasper, who moved back to the area in December 2013 to care for their mother. They are a small family of 5 but very close and supportive of each other. Jim and Irene have seven grandchildren (1 deceased) and 12 Great-Grandchildren (1 deceased).
The Seitz family will celebrate Jim and Irene’s 65th Wedding Anniversary at their family home on the north end of Jasper on Saturday, September 25th – which is also Irene’s 84th Birthday -- with a private family dinner and festivities.
