JHS gives basketball awards

Several players came away with awards as Jasper High School’s boys basketball team recently doled out postseason honors.

Mark Giesler was named Wendy’s Player of the Year and most valuable senior, also being recognized as the scoring leader (14.8 points per game), rebounding leader (6.4 per game) and leader in charges taken (four). Other awards went to Austin Alles (best field goal percentage at 53 percent), Nate Messier (best 3-point percentage at 42 percent), Nick Gobert (most assists with 59; best free throw percentage at 79 percent) and Cole Sermersheim (most steals with 39). Also, Giesler was recognized for making the All-Big Eight Conference team, while Gobert was lauded for being named academic all-state. Sermersheim, Gobert, Messier and Giesler were also recognized for serving as captains.
