Jerald Carl Schwartz, 88, Fort WayneMarch 14, 2019
Jerald Carl Schwartz, 88, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at his home in Fort Wayne.
Jerald was born in 1930 in Monon. His parents were Arthur P. Schwartz & Mildred N. (Beck) Schwartz, and siblings Stanley, Arnold, Ruth (Esarey) and Alan.
He married Jeanann (Knight) Condrey in 1957, and his surviving family are his children Kathy Priem (husband Gary), Judith Nastally (husband Ron Furniss), Jeffrey Schwartz and Amy Zieles (husband Michael); and his grandchildren Ian Nastally (wife Brigitte), Anastasia Priem, Garrison Priem, Mitchell Zieles, and Sean Zieles.
Jerald grew up in Huntingburg, where he attended the local high school where he was class president for four years and a National Merit Scholarship winner. He graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington. Jerald served in the Army Corp of Engineers and was a veteran of the Korean War.
In 1956 Jerald began work for International Business Machines in Evansville and worked for the company for 23 years until 1979. He continued to work for the rest of his life until 2018 when his battle with cancer was coming to an end. His last position at the age of 87 was as Number 1 Employee for his daughter Judith’s landscaping company (J. Lynne Associates). The years in between he held many jobs using his computer, sales and people management skills, some of those being; forming his own company (Jerico Inc.) and working as Director of Data Processing for the City of Fort Wayne.
Jerald loved living life and experiencing all the world had to offer. He enjoyed the company of people and sharing stories with intentional comedic timing. In a crowd of strangers, with Jerald in the room, there would be no worries about awkward silence. In his later years, he was purposeful about communicating his love to family members and his unabashed pride in their accomplishments. His charismatic personality and incredible sense of humor will be sorely missed. To honor his enthusiasm for living, his family will recognize his passing with a celebration of his life.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. and the funeral at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
